dalpofzs is a contemporary art project active since 2013, that offers a meeting and working place for a small group of people with different professional backgrounds, living (sometimes) thousands of km appart. the project focuses especially on small-scale works that examine the distances between us from a multitude of different perspectives. dalpofzs practice takes various forms, from net art works, to temporary installations in public spaces, to experimental music and audio-video works. some of these works were exhibited in art galleries, both online and offline, other remain informal collaborations that are posted on our website (www.dalpofzs.com) and social networks. sometimes dalpofzs produces works that do not leave any public trace.

discreet monuments is a new series of projects by dalpofzs, that reimagines the 'public monument' in the context of contemporary cultures permeated by digital technologies and marked by their consequences. we will create works that interrogate the limits between public and private, personal and political, perceptible and imperceptible in more or less known public spaces.

discreet monuments I - bucurești, the first work in the series discreet monuments, is a monument dedicated to the discreet act of breathing (metaphorically or not) in bucharest, one of the most congested and polluted cities of the european union. unlike traditional public monuments, we are not creating an object but a modulation of the ways in which we perceive the world through our technological prostheses. the visual part of the work will use the camera of the spectator’s mobile phone (or tablet, etc.) to capture video images of the location and to modulate them in real time, creating distortions and visual effects that put in a new perspective both the space that the work is placed in and our relationship with the technologies that permeate our lives. the audio component of the work—pre-recorded (unlike the video)—will reinterpret the local acoustic landscape through electronic interventions, populating it with abstract musical objects. we will use for this project statistical data regarding the air quality in bucharest, which will be utilized as parameters in the video modulation and will be transformed in acoustic experiences integrated in the audio component of the work. periodically, a voice intervenes presenting weather forecasts corresponding to significant dates in the history of the square.
this discreet public monument, accessed on a personal mobile device, is 'located' in piața universității, in the pedestrian space vis-a-vis the university of bucharest. we are interested this space because of the traditional public monuments found here, because of the political overtones that it has as a crucial point in bucharest for public manifestations, but also because it is one of the most polluted and congested places in the city (at the same time, it is a location that has personal connotations for each of us, the dalpofzs members involved in this project). our project critically intervenes in this context, glitching the perception of this public space rich in political connotations. we are introducing in the collective history of the square a discreet memory (monumentum - 'reminder') that distorts and modifies the corporeal sensorial experience that piața universității offers. we are symbolically questioning in this way the memory/history that is constructed in piața universității (and in the building of the history faculty that sits across the road). we are thus creating a monument (anti-monument) that does not fetishize people and events in the history of a 'nation', but rather focuses on invisible ecological factors that affect the lives of each one of us (in this case air quality), problematizes the way in which sensorial experiences are (de)constructed through new technologies and renegotiates the limit between private space (the personal mobile device) and public space (piața universității).

1946.10.24: Noaptea trecută au început să cadă primii fulgi de zăpadă. Ninsoarea a continuat aproape în tot timpul zilei de eri, având un caracter general. Această zăpadă oarecum prematură, se datorește invaziei de aer polar produsă de maximul barometric situat în Nord-Vestul Europei.
1954.11.04: Vremea rece, cu cer schimbător dar mai mult acoperit. Vor cădea precipitaţii temporare: noaptea sub formă de ninsoare şi lapoviţa, iar ziua sub formă de ploaie. Temperatura va coborî noaptea între -1 şi -3 grade, iar ziua va urca între 4-6 grade.
1959.12.31: Temperatura este în scădere ușoară. Minimele vor fi cuprinse între -2 și -10 grade, iar maximele între plus 2 și -6 grade.
1961.02.03: INSTITUTUL METEOROLOGIC COMUNICĂ: Azi, 3 februarie 1961, la ora 8, în Bucureşti, temperatura aerului a fost de 1 grad. Timpul probabil de mîine: Vremea se menţine relativ călduroasă. Cerul va fi mai mult noros şi favorabil precipitațiilor.
1962.09.27: Vreme răcoroasă, cu cer variabil pe 27 septembrie 1962. Izolat vor cădea ploi slabe.Temperatura staţionară, apoi în creştere. Minimele vor oscila între 1-7 grade. Dimineața va fi brumă locală.
1968.08.20: Pe 20 august 1968, vremea se menţine relativ răcoroasă la începutul intervalului, iar apoi se va încălzi uşor. Cerul va fi schimbător. Vor cădea averse locale de ploaie. Vînt potrivit predominînd din sectorul nordic.
1969.07.20: Timpul probabil de mîine: Vreme uşor instabilă cu cerul temporar noros, favorabil aversei de ploaie. Vîntul va prezenta intensificări de scurtă durată din nord-est. Temperatura aerului va oscila între 15 și 25 de grade.
1971.05.05: Interlocutorul nostru de astazi, 5 mai 1971, ne comunică : BUCUREŞTI : Vreme relativ frumoasă. Cer variabil. Vînt potrivit. Temperaturile minime vor fi cuprinse între 11 şi 14 grade, iar maximele între 22 și 25 grade.
1971.10.30: PROGNOZA PENTRU BUCUREŞTI la 30 octombrie 1971: Vreme în general închisa. Temporar precipitaţii slabe. Vînt slab pînă la potrivit. Temperatura minimă va oscila între 6 şi 2 grade, iar maxima între 6 şi 9 grade.
1972.12.07: Vremea va fi relativ rece pe 7 decembrie 1972, cu cer variabil. Noaptea și dimineaţa va fi ceaţă, cu un grad de vizibilitate scăzut.
1973.09.11: INSTITUTUL METEOROLOGIC COMUNICĂ: Azi, pe 11 septembrie 1973, la ora 8, în Bucureşti, temperatura aerului a fost de 18 grade. Maxima de ieri în aer a fost de 32 grade, iar minima din cursul nopţii de 17 grade.
1976.05.28: În Bucureşti pe 28 mai 1976 vremea va fi relativ rece. Cerul va fi mai mult noros la început, cînd va mai ploua. Apoi cerul va deveni variabil. Temperatura maximă între 16 și 18 grade, iar minima între 10 și 12 grade.
1977.03.04: Vîntul va prezenta intensificări pînă la 80-100 km pe oră. In rest, vor fi intensificări locale şi trecătoare, cu viteze pînă la 40-50 km pe oră. Temperaturile maxime vor oscila între -5 și 5 grade.
1979.12.28: Meteorologul de serviciu ne comunică: BUCUREŞTI: Vremea va continua să se răcească uşor pe 28 Decembrie 1918. Cerul va fi schimbător. Vîntul va sufla slab pînă la moderat.
1989.12.16: Institutul de Meteorologie și Hidrologie comunică: 16 decembrie 1989: Vremea va fi deosebit de caldă pentru această dată. Temperatura maximă va fi în jurul valorii de 12 grade iar cea minimă de la noapte între 1 și 4 grade.
